Grace in Small Things 117
1. The new plants in the back yard.
2. The hope that I won’t kill those plants.
3. Talks with James at night when I water those plants.
4. Talking about the speed at which the tomato plants grow.

Tomato plants are basically weeds, and this makes us home gardeners very happy indeed. (That was almost a poem!)
My teeny veggie garden is mostly for “pick and eat” fun in the yard. Caroline loves to eat the cherry tomatoes (Sun Sugar orange ones and little red miniature plum tomatoes) right off the vines, and also any herb I have growing — parsley is her favorite. This year I have some sugar-snap pea vines going, too.
My beautiful sleddog thinks she is a gardner also! Even now at the age of 14 and blind in one eye she still goes and smells each flower I plant. No longer does she do excavating!
